Performance testing of the counterfeit test strips obtained by LifeScan to date shows erratic test results that do not meet LifeScan’s performance specifications. It is unknown how counterfeit test strips which may be in the marketplace will perform. LifeScan cannot ensure the accuracy and reliability of blood glucose test results obtained from test strips it did not manufacture. Patients should discontinue use of these counterfeit test strips and replace them immediately. Patients should also contact their physician to assess potential treatment implications. Use of these counterfeit test strips could result in inaccurate test results that may lead to improper treatment. For example, insulin treatment based on inaccurate blood glucose results could result in serious injury or death.

The outer cartons of the recently discovered counterfeit test strips have all of the following characteristics:

A detailed description of this issue, specific information for merchants, and periodic updates are available at www.GenuineOneTouch.com.

Upon identifying these incidents, LifeScan immediately notified the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is vigorously pursuing legal actions. The company is also notifying wholesalers, distributors, retailers and pharmacists so that they can quickly identify and remove the counterfeit test strips from the market. Any merchant or patient who discovers counterfeit products is encouraged to report their finding by calling LifeScan at 1-866-621-4855. In addition, any patient or healthcare professional that discovers counterfeit products should file a report with FDA’s MedWatch program by visiting: http://www.fda.gov/medwatch/What.htm or calling 1-800- FDA-1088.

Here’s a guest post on how someone got off insulin and cure diabetes in about 2 months after nine years on prescription drugs! And if only she’d known about this “blood sugar supplement” she could have prevented the whole problem before it ever started! June was a 56-year-old with diabetes. She had been on insulin and oral prescription medications for nine years when she agreed to test a new natural solution. Within six weeks, she stopped not only her insulin but another prescription drug as well.

Want to Learn How To Cure Diabetes?
Read This...

In just six weeks an alternative doctor solved a problem that mainstream medicine couldn’t handle in nine years and for thousands of dollars. The fact is that it costs the typical diabetic around $10,000 a year for treatment. Conventional medicine soaked this woman for maybe $90,000 to treat a medical problem that plant remedies cured in no time at all! A standard diabetes test showed June went from severely diabetic to healthy in the course of the treatment. But this diabetes breakthrough almost didn’t happen. Believe it or not, Jon Barron, the acclaimed researcher who found this remedy, wanted nothing to do with creating a diabetes treatment. He thought it would be a mistake to use herbs and nutrients to manage the symptoms of diabetes rather than addressing the root cause – mainly the way we eat.

What changed Jon’s mind was the galloping diabetes epidemic all around us. Nearly 20 million Americans already have full-blown diabetes, and up to 40 percent of the rest of us are pre-diabetic. Diabetes is the No. 6 cause of death in the United States, and it’s destined to move up the charts pretty quickly, given the way we eat. It’s hard to believe, but the average American scarfs down 152 pounds of sugar a year. It’s easy to do, even if you think you’re being careful. For instance, sodas contain as much as a teaspoon of sugar per ounce. There’s sugar in catsup, salad dressing, organic cereals. In practically everything. The key is to balance your blood sugar now—before you get sick. We take natural supplements for cholesterol and blood pressure. Isn’t it about time for a natural solution to diabetes?

Jon decided it was… seven herbs tackle diabetes seven different ways.
Barron came at his solution from a wholly unique angle. Instead of just following the mainstream approach, Barron addressed the fact that diabetes was the wrong point of attack. That’s because diabetes is the symptom of a metabolic problem, not the cause. So instead of dealing with that end result, Barron developed a formula to help optimize the body’s ability to metabolize sugar properly. Before formulating his product, Barron analyzed all the studies and competing claims for natural diabetes treatments and sugar-regulating formulas.

Ayurvedic medicine (the ancient tradition of India), for example, offers 44 different natural remedies for diabetes. Other traditions offer dozens more. After much study, Barron narrowed the menu down to six that had the best chance of creating a thorough, root-cause approach to maximizing the body’s ability to metabolize sugar. Then, on the heels of a new discovery, he added the seventh potent ingredient to come up with the ideal sugar metabolic enhancement formula. You may have heard of the first two ingredients below from other sources, but you probably can’t name the other five… and that’s where Barron’s unique research expertise comes in.

The first ingredient is fenugreek. In a recent study, researchers saw a 54% drop in urinary glucose levels—the test doctors often use to identify diabetics. But to get the most benefit, patients had to eat a huge amount of fenugreek – pretty unpleasant undertaking. The stuff tastes terrible (it’s extremely bitter), and comes with some pretty unpleasant side effects (like foul-smelling sweat and urine) when you eat a lot of it. Now a new extract concentrates the active ingredient in fenugreek, making much smaller doses possible and getting rid of those smelly side effects. In India they call gymnema sylvestre, a traditional Ayurvedic diabetes remedy, “the sugar destroyer.” Here’s why: A protein in the plant makes you lose your craving for sugar and may actually prevent you from digesting some of the sugar you DO eat. Plus, gymnema seems to regenerate pancreas cells, allowing your body to produce more insulin. In an 18-month gymnema study, most test subjects were able to reduce their medication… and some were able to get rid of drugs altogether. Best of all, no one has reported any adverse side effects of gymnema. Not one.

Konjac mannan is a potent herb you’ve probably never heard of, but it’s been proven effective in clinical trials. In fact, in a 65-day trial, 72 patients with adult-onset diabetes who took konjac saw their fasting blood sugar levels drop an average of 51.8 percent and their levels after eating drop 84.6 percent!

The nopal cactus (a.k.a. the prickly pear cactus) is just gaining recognition in the natural medicine world. There’s not a lot of clinical research into its medicinal benefits yet, but several small studies suggest that eating nopal leaves with a meal can help contain —even reduce — serum glucose levels. Individuals with type 2 diabetes have experienced a 10 to 20 percent reduction in blood sugar levels after eating nopal.

Banaba leaf extract has been shown to lower blood sugar levels in people with Type 2 diabetes by up to 30%. It also helped the people in the trial keep tighter control over glucose fluctuations. Best of all, banaba appears to encourage weight loss…without any major dietary changes.

Bitter melon contains at least three components that act on blood sugar – and clinical trials confirm its effectiveness for managing glucose levels.

The final ingredient is a patented cinnamon extract called Cinnulin PF which ramps up the overall effectiveness of the supplement. In fact, Cinnulin PF actually works to make the insulin receptor sites on your individual body cells more receptive…and that means your body can use its own insulin more efficiently. Barron put all these ingredients together into a highly beneficial supplement he called Glucotor v.2.

Here are just some of the astounding results seen in six-week Phase I Clinical Trials conducted using this formula:

Blood sugar levels dropped by an average 54.4 points

An average 52% improvement in blood sugar utilization and optimization, meaning
that participants’ bodies learned to handle sugar more efficiently

Improved carbohydrate metabolism (meaning that patients’ metabolic systems handled
dietary carbs more effectively) by an average 39%

An average weight loss of 5.5 pounds

Are you Taking Any of These Herbs to Cure Your Diabetes?

This sugar metabolic enhancement formula, which can help control diabetes from the right angle, is just one great example of how members benefit from being part of the Health Sciences Institute (HSI) network. Thanks to our inside, confidential sources, we were able to follow the development and testing process and bring this breakthrough to our members as soon as it became available. To learn more about Glucotor™ v.2, you can call Baseline Nutritionals at (800) 695-5995 A Word of Caution: If you’re on prescription medications—and even if you aren’t — you need the guidance of a qualified health professional before you try this remedy. Jon Barron is a member of the Health Sciences Institute Advisory Panel. He was chosen for his impressive record as a researcher and educator in nutrition and herbal therapy.

In some medical circles it’s called Type 3 Diabetes. Teenagers and young adults diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, if overweight or obese, can develop type 2 diabetes later in life. It’s a double whammy and the medical consequences of such a diagnosis don’t look good.

First, let’s briefly cover the basics of diabetes.

Diabetes is Elevated Blood Glucose Levels

Higher than normal level of glucose in the blood is diabetes. Glucose is the main energy source for the brain and nerves and comes from digesting carbohydrates. Because of its importance as an energy source, glucose blood level is normally kept within a narrow range.

Two hormones help to keep glucose in this normal range. First, there is insulin. Insulin is released by the pancreas as glucose levels rise after a meal. It promotes the uptake of glucose by muscle cells. Second, is glucogon. This hormone causes the release of glucose out of energy stores during fasting. The insulin to glucogon ratio helps to stabilize the normal levels of blood glucose.

Two Types of Diabetes

In order to have consistently high blood glucose levels either insulin production and/or release from the pancreas is defective or the muscles don’t respond to insulin when it is released.

Juvenile or Type 1 Diabetes – Insulin production is defective. Most often detected early in life. These patients require insulin shots.

Adult Onset or Type 2 Diabetes – The muscles don’t respond to insulin. In this case, glucose stays within the blood and not in the tissues. The early stage is called Insulin Resistance. Type 2 is associated with being overweight or obese.

The Atypical Type of Diabetes – Double Diabetes or Type 3

A young man who has type I diabetes, if he does not follow a proper diabetic diet and an exercise program, could develop type 2 diabetes on top of his type I diagnosis.

This is a fear turned into reality for many type I diabetics and their families. The Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh states that 25% of children with type I diabetes are showing features of type 2. The main feature shared by all of these children…obesity. Dr. Dorothy Becker, a pediatric endocrinologist and leading double-diabetes researcher, feels the numbers will continue to climb.

And an ongoing study to determine the best treatment for children with type 2 diabetes is also uncovering many kids who harbor antibodies that signal they have or are developing the type 1 form.

No matter which type of diabetes came first in a child, it makes treatment that much harder for everyone involved. So what is the best treatment?

Treating Type 3 Diabetes

The best treatment for type 3 diabetes is prevention. Children, with or without diabetes, must exercise. Toning and building muscle tissue is the only effective way to protect against type 3 diabetes.

Strong muscles are metabolic active and able to uptake glucose as expected when insulin is released into the blood. Parents, start a supervised and doctor approved workout program with your children. Something tells me that we may need a strong future.

There was a cure for the biological disease of stomach ulcers but the doctors were telling us it was stress-related (Everything is stress-related to some extent, as the Pauling research that won a Nobel Prize for Vitamin therapy [especially 'C'] has proven.) and many people suffered under the surgeon’s knife until recently. The homeopathic war with the FDA and drug-pushers is a very interesting study in deceit and power. For example it took until last year for the research at the University of Alabama led by Dr. Campbell to confirm what won a Nobel Prize a quarter century ago. The immune system and lymph system is vital to the interplay between soul and physical body energy manifestation. The arrogance of competitive marketing enterprises can’t be the only reason that we have endured the removal of health maintenance at the hands of these ‘experts’.

Current books on nutrition and herbal supplements tout Hydro-chloric Acid (HCA) and chromium percolonate along with ‘Vanadol‘ as a cure for adult onset diabetes. The truth of the fact that disallows ‘Vanadol’ for sale in Canada is evil, though I do not believe there is such a thing as evil. The drugs that are recommended lead inexorably to the use of insulin and toxic death. There is research that shows these drugs directly create death in a certain percentage of cases as well. HCA and vitamin C may have benefits in building up the immune system and stopping cancer and other disease. Our body has the ability to cure itself when the soul is properly in tune with it, according to many healers of the past. Will we support it rather than deny it? There is no need to avoid the use of medical approaches when warranted but their overuse leads to hospitals of high risk. The stories of unnecessary operations and faulty operations are rampant in society.

When one learns to have regular exercise and nutritional discipline great things can be achieved, as in the case of my ‘twin’ who beat leukemia which I mentioned under ‘cancer cures’. The joke that says if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck – it is a duck! – might have some benefit for us to consider. Who is the quack? The results are sufficient to know we could use the homeopathic and naturopathic or chiropractic knowledge but it is an uphill fight. There are 300 doctors in Ontario who support this ‘environmental medicine’ but they run the risk of losing their license. Yes, it happens all the time, and the lawyers get rich while people die from the debilitating effects of drugs and their effect on leeching the body of vitamins and resources to beat all kinds of disease.

Dr. Bell did a tape I listened to once; it said in 1993 the average age or lifespan of doctors was 57 and the population at large was 73 (U.S.). He is a veterinary doctor who found the benefits of chromium and vanadium with cattle also worked on humans. Animals might ‘quack’ but ‘experts’ are often ‘quacks’!

Type 1 diabetes was formerly known as juvenile diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. Type 1 diabetes matures quickly and symptoms are very visible.

This type of diabetes occurs when the body’s immune system destroys pancreatic cells. These cells are the insulin producing cells. This type of diabetes affects mostly children and young adults. Risk factors for type1 diabetes include autoimmune, genetics, and environmental factors.

Many clinical studies have shown that an option for type 1 diabetes treatment is the pancreas transplantation. For some patients, surgeons can restore the function of the pancreas with an islet cell transplant.

The most important benefit of pancreas transplantation is freedom from dependence on insulin. Although this is significant, this is not recommended treatment for diabetes unless there is a need for a kidney transplant as well.

On the other hand, pancreas transplants still remains problematic in that the immune system still can attack new pancreas cells. Some people who have transplants do find that the transplanted pancreas is attacked and the insulin-producing cells are killed off after operation.

At this time, pancreas transplants do not always provide permanent cures, and people who have transplants must take anti-rejection medication and immune-system suppressing drugs.

Many research teams are still working on this immune system problem that seems to be the root cause of type 1 diabetes (sometimes called auto-immune diabetes).

This is main reason that pancreas transplants are still only being studied experimentally and are not considered currently to be an automatic cure for all patients with type 1 diabetes.

I got this from a reader and wanted to see if anyone had any specific help for him. I don’t have any experience with Insulin so I’ll give it to people who do:

Hi there Ken,

I am a diabetic aged 56 years and am using 70%/30% Humulin Insulin since about 9 years. Everything was all right and I never had any symptom of Hyperglycemia, hence presumed that my sugar levels were under control. Therefore, I tested my blood very seldom. My work involves long hours of sitting before computer.

Since about two weeks my feet started getting swollen at the end of the day and became normal again in the morning. But the most alarming factor is that my left ankle joint is getting stiff , painful and difficult to move. I have started testing my sugar after the onset of this condition and it is always found to be around 250. I have increased my insulin dose and have even stared taking it three times a day instead of previous two times (morning and evening).

But it has not worked.

The sugar level does not come down. In the morning, of course, it is 120 to 130. I am very careful in my diet strictly avoiding ANY sweet items.

All my other body systems are working absolutely normal. I shall be highly grateful for any advice please.

Best regards,

Asghar

Type I diabetes is also known as insulin-dependent diabetes or juvenile diabetes. This form of diabetes is mainly found in children. The primary problem in all forms of diabetes, regardless if it is Type I or Type II is that the glucose (sugar) levels of the body are too high.

In a healthy person, the beta cells in the pancreas produce a hormone called insulin in response to sugar in the blood. The sugar gets there through the food and drinks we consume. Normally, the insulin helps to move the sugar from the bloodstream and into the cells of the body where it can be used for cellular processes. The insulin triggers gates located in the membranes of the cells to open, allowing the sugar to flow in.

A person with Type I diabetes can not make enough or any insulin. This produces the abnormally high levels of glucose in the bloodstream seen in these patients.

The question begs to be asked, “Why doesn’t the body produce insulin?” In Type I diabetes the culprit is the immune system. Something, whether it be genetic or environmental is still not clear, triggers the immune system to malfunction. Instead of viewing the beta cells of the pancreas as “self”, the immune system sees the beta cells as foreign invaders. Doing what it’s supposed to do, which is attack and destroy invading cells, the immune system in error attacks the beta cells.

Even though other beta cells can be produced by the pancreas, the speed at which the immune system attacks and destroys is too fast for the pancreas to keep up. Over time the amount of insulin produced in response to sugar in the blood is diminished.

The result is high blood sugar. Insulin shots can control the disease, however, there are currently treatments being studied which may actually stop the immune system from attacking itself which would bring about a natural halt to the problem.

There are two main types of diabetes, type I and type II.
Type I diabetes is characterized by the pancreas making too little or no insulin. An individual with diabetes type I will have to inject insulin throughout the day in order to control glucose levels. Type II diabetes, also known as adult onset diabetes, is characterized by the pancreas not producing enough insulin to control glucose levels or the cells not responding to insulin. When a cell does not respond to insulin, it is known as insulin resistance. When a subject is diagnosed with type II diabetes, exercise and weight control are prescribed as measures to help with insulin resistance. If this does not control glucose levels, then medication is prescribed. The risk factors for type II diabetes include: inactivity, high cholesterol, obesity, and hypertension. Inactivity alone is a very strong risk factor that has been proven to lead to diabetes type II. Exercise will have a positive effect on diabetes type II while improving insulin sensitivity while type I cannot be controlled be an exercise program. Over 90% of individuals with diabetes have type II.

Exercise causes the body to process glucose faster, which lowers blood sugar. The more intense the exercise, the faster the body will utilize glucose. Therefore it is important to understand the differences in training with type I and type II diabetes. It is important for an individual who has diabetes to check with a physician before beginning an exercise program. When training with a diabetic, it is important to understand the dangers of injecting insulin immediately prior to exercise. An individual with type I diabetes injecting their normal amount of insulin for a sedentary situation can pose the risk of hypoglycemia or insulin shock during exercise. General exercise guidelines for type I are as follows: allow adequate rest during exercise sessions to prevent high blood pressure, use low impact exercises and avoid heavy weight lifting, and always have a supply of carbohydrates nearby. If blood sugar levels get too low, the individual may feel shaky, disoriented, hungry, anxious, become irritable or experience trembling. Consuming a carbohydrate snack or beverage will alleviate these symptoms in a matter of minutes.

Before engaging in exercise, it is important for blood sugar levels to be tested to make sure that they are not below 80 to 100 mg/dl range and not above 250 mg/dl. Glucose levels should also be tested before, during, after and three to five hours after exercise. During this recovery period (3-5 hours after exercise), it is important for diabetics to consume ample carbohydrates in order to prevent hypoglycemia.

Exercise will greatly benefit an individual with type II diabetes because of its positive effects on insulin sensitivity. Proper exercise and nutrition are the best forms of prevention for type II diabetics. It is important for training protocols to be repeated almost daily to help with sustaining insulin sensitivity. To prevent hypoglycemia, progressively work up to strenuous activity.

As with individuals with type I diabetes, carbohydrates should also be present during training to assist in raising blood sugar levels if the individual becomes low.
