Preventing Diabetes the Natural Way

Some simple steps to prevent diabetes

No one knows for sure if they will develop diabetes. It does tend to run in families, but not everyone in a family usually gets this disease. By taking some simple steps in diet and lifestyle, anyone can try to prevent the disease. Science has found that certain foods DO lower blood sugar. By choosing to eat these instead of foods that convert into carbs quickly in the body, the chances of developing diabetes are lessened. You CAN learn all about the disease with diabetes information so that you can take steps to prevent it.

According to the American Diabetes Association, 1 in 10 adults are diabetic

It is possible to prevent yourself from becoming one of those who develops diabetes. The American Diabetes Association reports that adults with diabetes are 2 to 4 times more likely to die from heart disease. They also have a higher risk of stroke, and most diabetics have high blood pressure. This organization also reports that blindness, kidney failure, and nerve damage are frequent complications of this disease. Diabetics sometimes need to have their toes, feet, or legs amputated because of nerve damage and poor circulation to the point that their lower limbs cannot be saved. These facts are enough to make anyone listen and change their lifestyle. The worst thing is that there is no diabetes cure that has yet been found.

Maintain a healthy weight, eat right, and exercise

These are the three best ways to avoid getting this disease. Of course, even if you do all three right, there is no guarantee that you will not get diabetes, but your chances are greatly lowered. Many people who develop type 2 diabetes were obese at the time that they were diagnosed with the disease. Even losing a few pounds can be helpful in avoiding the disease. Eating right involves very little sugar and fat in the diet and lots of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Foods that are known to lower blood
sugar should be a part of your daily diet if you are serious about avoiding diabetes. Exercise is the third element of avoiding diabetes, so stay active and keep moving.
