Diabetic Neuropathy is a painful complication of diabetes that occurs as a result of glucose levels being elevated for an extended period of time. The condition often shows up as a tingling or pain. Although it can be present in various parts of the body such as the back, arms or abdomen, it usually manifests in the legs or feet.
The origin of the condition is due to damage that nerve endings have been subjected to as a result of the elevated sugar levels. The good news is that once the levels are stabilized, the effects of the condition will lessen significantly. Sometimes they will disappear completely.
Symptoms for this condition can range from a mild tingling or slight numbness to intense pain. It might also feel like the area is burning. The pain can radiate and can also vary in intensity, depending on the severity of the condition.
If the condition does show up in the other areas such as arms, back and abdomen, it might be difficult to identify. This is due to the fact that the symptoms do not seem to be related. Symptoms of the condition in these areas can include difficulty urinating, nausea, vomiting or indigestion, constipation and fatigue, lack of energy and a feeling or dizziness or fainting when you stand.
But symptoms may not be present for everyone. Some will experience slight symptoms, others may feel many of the symptoms while others may not have any of them at all. This makes it very important to keep up with your sugar levels so that you won't have to worry about this condition.
