Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes Guidelines Consistent But Lack Evidence

Their findings
The guidelines are consistent, but that consistency is not supported by systematic review.
Most of the published guidelines they analyzed that pertained to people who are obese and have type 2 diabetes were consistent in many areas, notably in diet, exercise, behavioral therapy and weight reduction.
Some guidelines suggested measures for those people struggling with very high body mass index numbers—such as drugs or even gastric bypass surgery—but the IQWiG failed to find the kind of evidence to back up such measures and qualify them for potential inclusion.
Perhaps the most troubling finding of the IQWiG was the dearth of systematic reviews carried out in support of the published guidelines. They found little to no mention of patient relevant outcomes as a result of adhering to the guidelines, forcing them to conclude that most published guidelines in this regard lack supportive evidence.
